Jamie is originally from Georgia and moved to Putnam County in 1983. He moved to Welaka in 2008 with his two children and was elected to the Welaka Town Council in 2009 serving over 10 years. In 2021 Jamie was elected Mayor of Welaka, FL. He sees himself as a conservative servant of the people. He believes in small government, the individual rights of the people, and accountability to the people from their government. He is committed to improving the quality of life for all citizens and is dedicated to finding innovative solutions to the state's problems. He passionately advocates for the economy and works hard to ensure businesses have the resources to thrive.
Besides serving as a long-time council member and Mayor, Jamie is also a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Florida and Georgia. He currently operates several funeral homes.
Hello, I'm Jamie Watts, Mayor of Welaka and a proud resident of the free state of Florida. I’ve had the privilege of working hard at the local level to keep government accountable and responsive to the people.
After Rep. Bobby Payne was elected for his fourth and final term due to term limits, I had a number of people from our community call and ask me to consider running for the State House.
For several months, I have struggled with the decision because I love my community and I love serving them as Mayor.
However, what has become painfully clear to me and others is that if we don’t have strong leadership on a regional level, we are going to allow Jacksonville and Orlando to make decisions for Welaka and all of the smaller towns in House District 20. These are communities that do want more economic opportunity but are also passionate about maintaining our home-grown values and quality of life. I believe I can help make a difference in striking a balance between these two goals.
We cannot know for certain every decision that will have to be made for our communities, but here’s what you should know about me:
• I will make decisions based on my view that our godly heritage and constitutional rights have been the foundation for America’s greatness.
• I believe in the strength of our families and the quality of life afforded to those families by our rural communities.
• I believe we can establish economic opportunity while preserving the charm and character that makes our district unique.
• I believe that the top priority of government is public safety and that we need to make sure our brave law enforcement officers have the resources they need.
• I believe we must continue to improve our infrastructure – roads, bridges, and above all, access to clean drinking water.
• I believe that taxes and unnecessary regulation are job-killing barriers to economic opportunity.
• I believe that our children should have the right to the best education suited to their needs.
I look forward to meeting with you, hearing your concerns, and earning your vote, one doorstep at a time because I believe the best way to represent you is by knowing you.

It is imperative that we unite in our dedication to cherishing and defending every precious life, ensuring a future where the right to life is valued and protected for all.
I am passionate about safeguarding girls' sports from individuals misrepresenting their gender. I firmly oppose any form of surgeries or gender-affirming care for minors. It is my strong belief that we must support Governor DeSantis' collaborative endeavor to eliminate sexually explicit content from our classrooms and libraries, material that seeks to indoctrinate our children into deviant behaviors. Protecting our children and promoting a nurturing environment is paramount to their well-being and future success.
I am a firm believer that our 2nd Amendment was enshrined in the Constitution to safeguard and guarantee all our other rights. Permitless carry, no fees for concealed weapons permits, and the Stand Your Ground/Castle Doctrine laws are crucial in preserving our freedom to self-defense. I wholeheartedly support and advocate for these measures, as they empower individuals to protect themselves and their loved ones. Let us cherish and protect these rights that we hold dear, for they are the bedrock of our liberty and security.
Preserving our springs, aquifer, and rivers is not just crucial for Florida's agriculture and eco-tourism but also a fundamental step towards ensuring a clean and sustainable drinking water supply. I firmly believe that investing in the protection and conservation of these natural resources is an important responsibility we all share. By doing so, we can not only safeguard our environment and ecosystems but also protect the well-being of current and future generations. Let us come together with unwavering dedication and passion to champion this cause for a better Florida.

This approach is crucial in cleaning up Florida's statute books and restoring a significant degree of economic freedom. The removal of unnecessary regulations not only streamlines processes but also fosters a business-friendly environment that encourages growth, innovation, and prosperity. By ensuring that regulations are kept to a minimum, we can create a vibrant and thriving economy that benefits all Floridians, now and in the future.
As Mayor, I passionately advocated for property tax rollbacks, and my commitment to supporting tax cuts remains unwavering. In fact, I proudly signed the Americans for Tax Reform "No New Tax" Pledge, symbolizing my personal dedication to this cause. This pledge signifies my strong conviction to consistently championing tax relief for the benefit of our community.
